LSU adds #14 to the 2009 commit list

Les Miles dips into Texas again and gets the commitment of big OL Stavion Lowe. Lowe 6'5 295 from Brownwood, TX is a Rivals and Scout 4* kid. #10 Guard and #276 overall by Scout and #168 overall by Rivals and #12 Tackle. Can play either T or G.

Lowe joins fellow Texans, Russell Shepard, Dexter Pratt, Michael Brockers as part of LSU's 2009 class.

"After seven long months of evaluation I felt comfortable and it had a piece of my heart," Lowe said. "LSU has everything I'm looking for as far as a campus environment, the students, the university and my relationship with the coaches."

"At the end it was probably between LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn," he said. "LSU has been on my mind heavy for the last couple of weeks."

LSU's Les Miles was certainly happy to receive Lowe's call on Sunday.

"I talked to the coaches throughout the afternoon,” Lowe said. “I told coach [Larry] Porter I’m coming to LSU then coach [Les] Miles welcomed me aboard and told me how happy they were to have me. It feels really good.”

"He was excited and he welcomed me with open arms," Lowe said.

“I feel like I made the right decision,” he said. “My family is moving to Houston after I graduate, so that helped win things over even more because they will be close.

“When I went down to Baton Rouge and visited it just felt comfortable. I really liked everything about it. I talked to Russell [Shepard] a good bit, and have begun to make some really good connections with all of the coaches.”

The atmosphere in Baton Rouge also helped play a role in his final call.

“I wanted to have something to do outside of football season, and Baton Rouge and the student life seems like something that is better than normal,” he said. “I didn’t see that type of atmosphere in Norman or Auburn, and Baton Rouge just had that atmosphere that can keep me entertained even when it isn’t the season.”

“My word is my bond,” he said. “LSU is my final decision, and I feel like I am definitely in a good place.”

There were many things that led to Lowe’s decision like the coaches and tradition at LSU but he admitted that there was one additional factor that helped the Tigers along the way.

“The food is unbelievable,” he said with a laugh. “I come from a family where we cook a lot, so I am looking for some more good food when I get to college.”

So how was it that all of the universities in Texas managed to allow a major recruit like Lowe escape from the Lone Star State?

"All of the other schools that were recruiting me were great and they made it very difficult for me to make my final decision," Lowe replied. "But I feel like every player is not made for ever program.

"The relationship I have with the LSU coaches is incredible. I knew when I made my commitment I wanted it to be like a bond and I feel like that's what I have with LSU.

"I prayed about it and I am at peace with my decision," Lowe added. "Hopefully I can come in to LSU and contribute early on."

Lowe still has the option of taking his official visits to other schools just to be certain he made the right choice. Is that something Lowe sees himself doing?

"I do not have any plans on looking at any other schools," Lowe informed. "This is it for me. I do not know how many officials you can take to one school because I plan on taking one to see an LSU game this season and I'm sure I'll make it to a couple of other games on my own as well."

So what now for the Tigers' 14th class of 2009 commitment?

"Now I am going to focus on my team," Lowe answered. "With the big three we have the chance to win a state championship this season. Other than me, we have a really good quarterback that committed to TCU and a head-crushing safety that committed to Texas. I'm just going to try to help take us as far as we can go."

Lowe has some other plans as well.

"I'd also like to see us (LSU) add as many other good recruits as we can," Lowe stated.

"Russell Shepard is like my brother," Lowe added. "We always check up on each other and I know he is into the recruiting stuff. I've known Russell for a long time and we kind of have that bond too. We are going to try to make this the number one or at least the number two rated recruiting class this year."

Lowe ended the conversation with a message for all of the LSU fans out there.

"Tell the LSU fans I'm going to do whatever it takes to bring another championship to LSU," Lowe concluded.
